Art shines at the Lighthouse Museum exhibition
Written by Frances Bevan (Lighthouse Parent)
12 December 2025 was a day to remember at Lighthouse International School as students and staff hosted their admiring parents, families and friends at the inaugural Lighthouse Museum exhibition.
Titled by the Lighthouse students themselves as ‘The Mix – Favourite Things Exhibition’, the students had been working for many months on extraordinary artworks in a range of mediums that reflected their interests and studies.
Finally, the day itself had arrived, and parents and friends entered to a truly transformed school. The ceiling was aglow with a luminous blue light and thousands of pinprick stars while the walls were adorned with low lights, creating a true art gallery experience.
In hushed tones, the visitors exclaimed over sculptures, painting and even Lego creations. All of the artworks were labelled with the no doubt soon-to-be famous names of their creators, while artist profiles on the walls gave insights into the artist’s intention.
Parents mingled and shared in their delight over all the students’ artworks before sitting down to watch a fascinating video where the artists discussed their works. There were many sighs, laughs and even a few proud tears as the students described their pieces to the captivated audience, giving insight into what moved and motivated them.
Finally – the moment had arrived for the excitement of an Art Auction! Parents were generous in their bidding to buy original, one-of-a-kind group artworks by the Lighthouse students and competition ensued!
Students, staff, family and friends all enjoyed the day enormously and the chance to enjoy each other’s company and continue to build the relationships between parents. It was wonderful to see parents bonding over their child’s obvious delight and pride in the works they had created.
Art has the power to communicate ideas and emotions that we all sometimes struggle to understand in ourselves, let alone put into words to share with others. At Lighthouse, as an inclusive school where we are passionate about connection, communication and belonging, art is a powerful tool. The Exhibition was a wonderful event that is sure to become an annual event in the school’s busy calendar.
